Forging refines and aligns the grain; casting freezes a structure that can hide porosity.

</details>
<details>

Which is stronger, forged or cast?

For comparable alloys, forged parts have higher integrity: no internal porosity, refined grain, directional fibre along load paths. That is why safety-relevant drivetrain and structural parts are forged, not cast.

</details>
<details>

Is casting cheaper than forging?

Casting dies can cost less and very high volumes favour it. But for mid-to-high volume structural aluminium parts, forging plus CNC finishing is frequently the better total cost — no porosity scrap, fewer X-ray rejects, less machining allowance variance.

</details>
<details>

Can every shape be forged?

Closed-die forging needs draft angles and generous radii; extremely complex internal cavities suit casting better. Most structural parts are designed for forging with DFM feedback — send a drawing and we confirm feasibility in 3 working days.

</details>
<details>

Why does cast aluminium sometimes fail under load?

Gas and shrinkage porosity act as internal stress raisers. The defect may pass inspection and fail in service under cyclic load — the failure mode forging eliminates by consolidating solid metal under pressure.

</details>
<details>

What about die casting specifically?

High-pressure die casting is fast and cheap at very high volumes, but traps gas porosity and is generally not welded or heat-treated. For safety-critical or fatigue-loaded parts, forged alternatives are the standard upgrade path.

</details>
<details>

Which alloys differ between the routes?

Casting uses foundry alloys like A356; forging uses wrought alloys 6061/6063/6082/7075 with mill certificates per batch. Properties and anodising behaviour differ accordingly.

</details>
<details>

Do you also cast?

No — we are a forging house (300–2500T presses) with in-house CNC machining and anodising. If casting genuinely fits your part better, our engineer will say so rather than sell you the wrong process.

</details>
<details>

How do I choose for my part?

Three inputs decide it: loads (static vs cyclic), volumes, and geometry. The free drawing review returns a process recommendation with cost range in 3 working days.

</details>
<details>

Where can I read related comparisons?

See forged vs cast parts, forging vs CNC cost and what drop forging means in this guide cluster.

</details>

FORGING GUIDES

    Forging vs CNC cost ·
Aluminium forging cost guide ·
Forged blanks vs billet ·
Forged vs machined strength ·
Forging vs casting ·
Forged vs cast ·
What is drop forging

MATERIAL GUIDES

6061 properties · 7075 properties · 6061 vs 7075 · What is billet aluminium · Forging vs casting · Forged blanks vs billet

Not sure which process fits your part?

Send one drawing — an engineer replies with an honest process recommendation and cost range within 3 working days.

  Send One Drawing

Home / Resources / Forging vs Casting PROCESS COMPARISON Forging vs casting: what really differs One shapes solid metal under pressure; the other pours liquid into a mold.
