Common Alloys at a Glance
- 6061: balanced, easy to weld and machine—see our 6061 guide;
- 6082: slightly stronger than 6061, still weld-friendly;
- 7075: highest strength, poor weldability—covered in our 7075 article;
- 2xxx series: excellent fatigue, used in airframes.

Don’t Over-Specify
Picking 7075 “just in case” wastes money and hurts weldability. Match the alloy to the real requirement.
