Forged Aluminium MTB Stems for OEM Brands

We forge each MTB stem from 6061 or 7075 aluminium, then finish the clamps on 5-axis CNC and check them on CMM. Send a drawing and get a DFM report within 48 hours.

Why Forge Your MTB Stem Instead of Machining Billet?

A stem joins the bar and steerer and takes every hit from the trail. On a forged MTB stem the aluminium grain follows the body and the clamp loops, so loads run along the grain rather than across it. A billet stem cuts through that grain to reach the same shape.

Forging gets close to final shape first, so we only machine faces, bores and threads. That saves material and cycle time on volume orders. Compare the two routes in forged vs billet, or see how part cost builds up in our CNC machining cost guide.

35mm and 31.8mm Clamp Stems

A 35mm MTB stem needs a larger clamp loop and a stiffer body, which is where a forged blank pays off: material sits where the load is, not where the cutter removes it. We machine the bar clamp and steerer bore on 5-axis CNC in one setup, so both bores stay square, and verify them on CMM. CNC machining finishes surfaces to a roughness down to Ra 0.8, and handles parts up to 500 mm.

One Supplier for Your Cockpit Parts

Stems rarely ship alone. The same ISO 9001 line forges cranks, dropouts and other parts, so your bike parts come from one factory with one quality file. See the full range of forged bicycle components.

MTB Stem FAQ

What makes a forged MTB stem stronger than a CNC billet stem?

Forging makes the aluminium grain follow the stem body, so the steerer clamp and bar clamp carry load along the grain instead of across it. We then CNC finish only the faces, bores and threads, which keeps fatigue strength high and weight low.

Which alloys do you use for an MTB stem?

Most MTB stem programmes use 6061-T6 for trail and enduro ranges, or 7075-T6 where you need the lightest, stiffest stem. 2014 suits high-strength parts, and 6063 and 6082 are available for brackets and accessories. Material certificates ship with every batch.

Do you make 35mm clamp MTB stems?

Yes. We make 35mm and 31.8mm bar clamps in 6061-T6 or 7075-T6. The clamp bore is machined on 5-axis CNC and checked on CMM.

Can you make a custom MTB stem length and rise to our drawing?

Yes. Send your STEP or PDF drawing with length, rise and steerer size. We return a DFM report within 48 hours, then make CNC prototypes in 3–5 days so your riders can test fit before tooling.

How long does it take to launch a new MTB stem?

CNC prototypes take 3–5 days. Forging tooling takes 20–25 days, and forged samples follow in about 30 days. Production timing depends on order size and finish.

What finishes are available for forged stems?

Sandblast plus anodise, polishing and brushing, in black or silver anodise. Hard anodising Type III is available for high-wear surfaces. Laser-engraved logos can be added.

How do you check stem clamp accuracy?

Clamp faces and bores are CNC machined to your drawing in one setup, so both bores stay square, and every batch is checked on CMM against your tolerances.

What quality system and documents come with each order?

We work to ISO 9001. Every batch ships with material certificates and an inspection report, and our forging line runs at a 99% first-pass yield.

Do you supply OEM and private-label MTB stems?

Yes. We are an OEM stem manufacturer: forging, machining and finish are built to your brand spec. We also forge cranks, dropouts and other OEM bicycle parts for the same programme.

How do I get a quote for an MTB stem?

Send a drawing or sample through our request form or WhatsApp. An engineer reviews the design, sends a DFM report within 48 hours and quotes prototypes, tooling and production.
